Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Monday that Israel has achieved another major triumph against Hezbollah. His declaration came as he outlined Israel's ongoing policy toward the militant group in Lebanon. Netanyahu affirmed that Israel would continue its actions, stating, "Our policy is clear: We will continue to destroy terrorist infrastructure in the security zone in Lebanon." This statement shows Israel's intent to maintain military pressure on Hezbollah within Lebanese territory. He further asserted, "We have destroyed its major terrorist stronghold on the Beaufort Ridge and the Ali al-Taher Ridge." Netanyahu emphasized Israel's commitment to national security, adding, "We will continue to remove any threat to the State of Israel."

Diplomatic Efforts Underway

Last month, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun reported progress in diplomatic engagements between Lebanon and Israel held in Rome. Aoun stated that headway had been achieved on border disputes and prisoner releases during these recent discussions. He noted that "positive progress" had been made on these matters, expressing optimism that tangible measures would materialize shortly, according to a statement released by the Lebanese presidency. These remarks followed the conclusion of three days of talks in Rome, where Israeli and Lebanese officials aimed to advance security frameworks along their shared frontier. The discussions also sought to implement an understanding previously established in Washington in late June, local media reported.

Context of Border Talks

The recent bilateral discussions in Rome, which focused on border disputes and prisoner releases, represent the seventh iteration of such talks between the Israeli and Lebanese administrations. These meetings, which faced opposition from Hezbollah, mark a continued effort to address long-standing issues between the two nations, Xinhua news agency reported. The ongoing diplomatic engagements aim to establish security frameworks along the shared border and implement understandings previously reached in Washington. The talks also focused on broader aspects of security and stability in the region.

Netanyahu's Firm Stance

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel had destroyed Hezbollah's major terrorist stronghold on the Beaufort Ridge and the Ali al-Taher Ridge. This destruction was part of a broader strategy, he indicated. Netanyahu affirmed that Israel would continue to remove any threat to the State of Israel. His remarks followed earlier statements outlining Israel's intent to maintain military pressure on Hezbollah. He emphasized that the policy was clear: to continue destroying terrorist infrastructure in the security zone in Lebanon. This firm stance reflects Israel's commitment to proactively addressing perceived security threats.

Lebanese President's View

Addressing a Cabinet session on August 7, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun outlined the scope of the recent Rome talks. A statement released by the Lebanese presidency indicated that discussions focused on four primary issues: a ceasefire, the demolition and bulldozing of houses, border demarcation, and the return of prisoners, alongside the identification of pilot areas. President Aoun also remarked that Washington would work to resolve remaining matters concerning a ceasefire and pilot zones. He added that US General Joseph Clearfield would visit Beirut shortly to monitor these developments, according to reports. The Lebanese presidency's statement noted the full nature of the discussions and the involvement of international actors in facilitating progress.
